Analysis of Symptoms Questionnaire related to Flying in Fighter Pilots, ROKAF


Abstract
Several studies have revealed that the most common cause of aircraft accidents is human errors. The introduction of the new high performance aircraft into Air Force, ROK has brought attention to the problem of flight safety.
The questionnaire is one of the useful methods for the assessment of symptoms in associated with aviation. Accordingly. The self-completed symtoms questionnaire related to flying was acmistered to 572 fighter pilot, 291 F-5 pilots, 240 F-4 pilots
and 41
F-16 pilots.
There were total 84 cases (14.7%) of visual disturbance including to 59 cases during flying, 142 cases (24.8%) of ear pain and 129 cases (22.6%) of headache in 572 pilots. There were 254 cases(44.4%) of low back pain and 15 cases necessity for
management. F-16 pilots group had more subjective symptoms such as ear pain, vertigo, palpitation, low back pain etc. than did F-5 , F-4 pilots group. In addition, analysis of the data includes other systemic symptoms according to flying, to
flying,
type of aircraft.
